Got this myself on my phone, and also it simply refused to update. Here's what helped me.

Edit: this seems to be an issue that Facebook understand. It's a problem with the Facebook application, and also not a generalised Play Shop problem.

This is what worked for me at least.

  1. Settings > Applications > All > Google Play Store, Clear information as well as Clear cache

  2. Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Provider > Manage area, Clear all information and also Clear cache


It does not hurt if you reboot your phone before you attempt upgrading facebook once again. And, the install was SLOW. Simply a minimum of 4-5 minutes. But, it did job. If not attempt to uninstall it, or just wait on a fix.
